This trade was viewed instantly as a win for the Flames, though many pointed to the fact that both Huberdeau and Weegar only had one year remaining on their contracts at the time. That issue was soon resolved with Huberdeau, who has since signed an eight-year, $84 million extension. Weegar, however, has yet to ink an extension, though that may change in the near future.
After posting career highs with eight goals and 44 points in 80 outings last season, Weegar brings a ton of excitement to the Flames. Despite Rasmus Andersson putting up 50-points of his own last season, the expectation is that the newcomer will at some point take over power play duties, meaning he could very well be in line for a 50-point season of his own. An extension for him would likely come with salary of $5+ million.
