Flyers receive positive update on the status of Sean Couturier

After missing the majority of last season with a back injury that required surgery, Philadelphia Flyers forward Sean Couturier told reporters on Monday that he is cleared to return to game action and will be a full participant in training camp coming in within the next week.

The Phoenix native is entering the first year of a massive eight-year contract extension he signed with the Flyers last summer that will see him earn $7.75 million per season and comes with a full no-movement clause for the first seven seasons.

Couturier, 29, was limited to only 29 games during the 2021-22 season due to his injury and subsequent surgery, which he underwent in February. In those 29 games, he recorded seventeen points (six goals, eleven assists), fourteen penalty minutes and was a minus-six.

The Flyers most likely won't make the playoffs this season, but getting back Couturier, who is a big part of their locker room and potentially the organization's next captain, will be a big morale boost for the entire team.
