Bryan Bickell Goes into Detail Over M.S. Diagnosis, Retirement
Bryan Bickell's career was suddenly cut short when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in November 2016. After winning three Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks, he retired at the age of 31. He joined Dan O'Toole and opened up about the first signs of the ailment and how it ultimately ended his playing career.
Bickell has kept his retirement low-key, fishing and advocating for various causes. He actively manages the Bryan Bickell foundation, which focuses on multiple sclerosis and the abuse of pitbulls.
In 395 games between the Blackhawks and the Carolina Hurricanes, Bickell scored 136 points (.49 points per game), and he is one of those guys who was very consistent in the playoffs as well, actually increasing his output with 39 points in 75 such matches (.52 points per game). His career ended on an extremely positive note when he scored a game-winning shootout goal in his final NHL game.
