Drouin is switching from 92 to 27, a number he is very familiar with in his career. The Ste-Agathe (Quebec) native wore the number 27 during his time in the QMJHL with the Halifax Mooseheads and also when he broke into the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2014.
When Drouin was unveiled to the media in Montreal following his trade from the Lightning in 2017, he was given the jersey number 72. Ultimately he changed it to 92, because 27 was being worn by Alex Galchenyuk. When Galchenyuk was traded, Drouin stayed with 92 with 27 being worn by Karl Alzner and Alexander Romanov until now.
The Canadiens are hoping the former third overall pick can bounce back this season after having an injury filled campaign in 2021-22. Last year, Drouin only appeared in 34 games, tallying 20 points (six goals, fourteen assists), 23 penalty minutes and was a minus-nine.
