The last year and a bit was difficult for Vegas Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel. After a stand off between the Sabres and Eichel over a disagreement about a surgery he wanted, the 25-year-old was traded to Vegas and underwent neck surgery roughly a week after the deal.

Eichel was able to make a return three months after surgery, but it was revealed after the season that he played the last six weeks of the year with a broken thumb.

In an interview with NHL.com's Jackie Spiegel, Eichel said that while it was a tough year, he won't make excuses.

"Listen, I'm not going to make excuses," Eichel said. "I don't think I played well last year in terms of my expectation of myself, and I'm sure the opinion of the public is probably pretty similar. They expect more out of me, and rightfully so."

He added, "With that being said, I came off a major surgery after not playing for a year, and I had major spine surgery and played three months after and, so, that's pretty quick and, you know, like anybody that's had surgery or went through an injury, it takes a lot of time for you to get back to feeling like yourself."

In the 34 games he appeared in for Vegas last season, Eichel tallied 25 points (fourteen goals, eleven goals), ten penalty minutes and was a plus-three.
