The Arizona Coyotes announced on Monday morning that former NHLer Lee Stempniak will be the organization's new director of player development.

«We are very pleased to name Lee as our new director of player development,» said Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong. «Lee was a hard-working player who had a very good career. He understands what it takes to get to the NHL and we are confident that he will do an excellent job developing our players.»

Prior to this role, Stempniak had served as a hockey data strategist for the Coyotes, a role in which he was hired for back in January of 2021. In his new role, he will oversee the development of the organization's prospects along with the development of players in the Coyotes minor league system.

Stempniak, 39, suited up for 911 career NHL games with a number of teams in the St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs, Phoenix Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Winnipeg Jets, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins and the Carolina Hurricanes. In those 911 games he scored 203 goals and 469 points.
