Hampus Lindholm's home in Sweden destroyed by fire

Some bad news for Hampus Lindholm of the Boston Bruins. The defenceman's home in the area of Lerberget in Sweden was destroyed by a fire which started Monday afternoon.

"I was not at home and no one was in the house. It was my alarm system that sounded the alarm and I had to hurry home," Lindholm told Aftonbladet.se.

"A house is a house, it's only material and no one has been hurt," he added.

An official at the scene told Aftonbladet the blaze was likely the result of batteries that were being charged catching on fire. Those batteries were for propeller-driven surfboards. Both the first and second floor of the home are totally destroyed. The basement of the home may be salvageable. Firefighters watched the home throughout the night and had to put out two flareups after the initial fire was extinguished. Lindholm said he's been offered help by the Bruins.

"The main thing for me is that no one has been hurt, my father and mother live nearby. I am grateful for all the support I have received, the Boston Bruins have been in touch and offered their help. That's what matters in a situation like this."

Lindholm joined the Bruins at the trade deadline last season after spending his entire NHL career before that with the Anaheim Ducks. Shortly after he was acquired, Boston announced he had been signed to an 8-year, $52 million contract.
