To Celebrate Their 50th Anniversary, the New York Islanders Buy $50,000 in...Lottery Tickets?
The New York Islanders today announced an initiative to purchase $50,000 in lottery tickets for their 50th Anniversary. They filled the order on behalf of Islanders Full Season Ticket Members, suite holders, staff, and the Islanders Children's Foundation ('Islanders Group'), and should one of their tickets win the $1.26 Billion jackpot the winnings will be split evenly.
The 25,000 tickets are an attempt to win Mega Million's second-largest purse ever and show appreciation to Season Ticket Holders and the like. If the total winnings equal less than $250,000, the total winnings will be donated to the Islanders' Children's Foundation. New York Islanders' co-owner Jon Ledecky made the following statement:
Oddly enough, this is the biggest announcement the Islanders have made all offseason. Except for maybe firing Head Coach Barry Trotz. $1.28 billion is a lot of freakin' money, so I kind of respect the Isles' ownership group for this move.
It is also kind of hilarious. Nevertheless, the Islanders did not do much to improve their roster from last year's team that failed to make the playoffs. And they are minus Barry Trotz, so this upcoming season won't be an easy one for the Islanders. No doubt they will sport a competitive, experienced group, but there isn't a ton there to suggest there is another deep run in this team. But I have been wrong before...
