After once being considered a bright and upcoming prospect for them, the Vancouver Canucks recently granted goaltender Michael DiPietro permission to speak with other teams in hopes of a trade, and his agent is now speaking his mind in regards to his thoughts of the organization.
DiPietro's agent, Darren Farris, believes the Canucks new management regime didn't give his client the chance he deserved to prove he can be an NHL goaltender. Now, with Thatcher Demko, Spencer Martin, Collin Delia and Arturs Silovs ahead of him on the depth chart, both parties agree a change in scenery is for the best. Despite the Canucks granting this decision, however, Farris is not happy with how they handled his clients development.
"He's a super kid," Farris said about DiPietro. "He's really mature and a very special person and has handled everything quite well. A lot of players wouldn't even be able to endure the lack of attention that maybe the organization had given to him."
"There are occasions where they've dropped the ball on his development. The truth of the matter is that the bulk is more on the organization than it is on the player in this instance. Hopefully, we can get him in the right position."
While Farris is confident DiPietro will be able to find a fresh start elsewhere, he will still need to prove himself to said organization. After a great junior hocky career in the Ontario Hockey League, the 23-year-old has been quite inconsistent at the American Hockey League level. In 34 games this past season with the Abbotsford Canucks he recorded a 2.95 goals against average paired with a .901 save percentage.
