Oilers announce new ECHL affiliate for the 2022-23 season
On Wednesday morning, the Edmonton Oilers announced that they will have a new ECHL affiliate for the 2022-23 season in the Fort Wayne Komets.
This will mark the second time these two have partnered, as they were also together from 1988-1990. During that time they were a part of the Central Hockey League (CHL) but have been playing in the ECHL since the 2012-13 season.
«On behalf of Ken Holland, Keith Gretzky and the entire Edmonton Oilers organization, we are thrilled to announce our new affiliation with the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL,» said Oilers assistant general manager Bill Scott. «As one of the premiere clubs in the ECHL with a rich history of professional hockey in Indiana, we are very excited to have our future Oilers in Fort Wayne.
«Under the leadership of Michael and David Franke and the direction of head coach Ben Boudreau, we know that our prospects and players will have a first class experience in Fort Wayne while developing as players on the ice and people off the ice.»

With this news, it means the Oilers have ended what was a five-year partnership with the Wichita Thunder, who mentioned on their team official Twitter account soon after the announcement that they are in negotiations with other NHL teams in search of affiliation.
