Bob Gainey and Derian Hatcher named first two inductees to Dallas Stars Hall of Fame
The Dallas Stars have announced that former head coach Bob Gainey and former captain Derian Hatcher will be the first two inductees into their Hall of Fame. The duo will be honoured on the weekend of October 29th to 31st.
"We are honored to announce the induction of Derian Hatcher and Bob Gainey into our inaugural class of the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame," Dallas Stars president and CEO Brad Alberts said.
He added, "Derian was everything that you would have wanted from a captain. He led with his actions on the ice and helped unite the locker room behind one common goal. Bob thoughtfully and meticulously constructed his roster and assembled extremely competitive teams. His commitment to winning helped cement hockey's popularity when the team moved to Dallas, resulting in generations of loyal Stars fans. We look forward to celebrating them during the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame Weekend in October."

Gainey, 68, joined the organization in 1990 as the head coach of the Minnesota North Stars, helping them reach the Stanley Cup Final. He remained with the team during their move to Dallas, then stepped down as head coach following 39 games in the 1995-96 season.
Hatcher, 50, was drafted by the Minnesota North Stars eighth overall in 1990 and spent twelve of his sixteen seasons in the National Hockey League, with the organization. He was named captain of the Dallas Stars in 1995 and held that role up until 2003, when he left as a free agent. In 1999, Hatcher became the first American-born captain to hoist the Stanley Cup.
