The Buffalo Sabres were looking pretty thin in the goaltending department, with only Craig Anderson under contract and three others as unrestricted free agents, while one, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is a restricted free agent.

With that in mind, the Sabres opted to re-sign one of their pending UFA's, Malcolm Subban, to a one-year, two-way contract worth $850,000.

Subban, 28, was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in early-December 2021 from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for future considerations. The Toronto native appeared in four games for the Sabres following the trade, posting a 0-2-1 record along with a 4.85 GAA and an .871 save percentage. Subban suffered an upper-body injury in January and required season-ending surgery.

It's likely the Sabres go out an scour the market for another netminder, as it seems doubtful they'll want to go with a tandem of Craig Anderson and Malcolm Subban for the entire year.
