Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced on Tuesday that the team has recalled goaltender Garret Sparks from their AHL (American Hockey League) affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.
Sparks is expected to be joining VGK back up Malcolm Subban. As it was reported by Sinbin.Vegas. Their star netminder Marc-Andre Fleury is away from the team for "personal reasons." There is no timeline for his return.
Sparks made his debut with the Golden Knights on October 25th after coming over in the offseason from the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. Having appeared in 38 NHL games, Sparks has posted an overall record of 14-18-2, with a 3.10 GAA (Goals Against Average) and a .897 save percentage. He's appeared in 12 games this season with the Chicago Wolves (AHL), holding a record of 4-7-1.
Sparks, who spent the previous two seasons in the Maple Leafs organization, won the 2018 Calder Cup with the Toronto Marlies (AHL), posting a 2.22 GAA in 19 playoff games. He was also awarded the Aldege "Baz" Bastien Memorial Award, which is given to the AHL's most outstanding goaltender for the 17-18 season, in which he finished the regular season with a 1.79 GAA and .936 save percentage in 42 games played (31-9-2.)
Sparks is expected to join the team for their upcoming game on Wednesday against the Nashville Predators. At this time, the Golden Knights organization has not stated whether Sparks or Subban will get the start.
