Don Cherry did not wait long after being fired from Sportsnet before starting his next venture. It is being reported that "Grapes", as he's affectionately known, is launching a podcast. It will be called Grapevine, the same name as his former radio show.
According to the Toronto Sun, Cherry's first podcast will drop Tuesday, and he will address his firing by Rogers Sportsnet, which is sure to get a lot of people tuning in.
“My son, Tim, is going to do it with me and my grandson Del," Cherry told the Sun.
“That way we cover off what happened on the weekend in hockey,” said Tim. “It's going to be fun.”
Cherry was fired from Coach's Corner on Hockey Night in Canada on Remembrance Day after going on a rant two days before on immigrants and poppies. The complaints were so numerous, the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council had asked that people stop sending them in as it was not equipped to handle any more. Sportsnet apologized publicly for the incident, followed by Coach's Corner co-host Ron MacLean the following night.
This weekend, MacLean returned to Hockey Night in Canada for the first time since the incident and announced that Coach's Corner was no more after 37 years on the air.
