Oskar Sundqvist of the St. Louis Blues has avoided a suspension for running into goaltender John Gibson of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks Saturday night. The Department of Player Safety has instead decided to fine Sundqvist $7,392.47, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for what it calls charging.

As Gibson played the puck, Sundqvist came around the left side and collided with the netminder, knocking him hard onto the ice. You can see the hit below. Anaheim beat the Blues 4-1 in the game. Usually, hearings with the Department of Player Safety are reserved for suspension, but it appears DoPS decided to buck the trend in this case.
