Kelly McCrimmon, General Manager of the Vegas Golden Knights, has announced that the organization has signed first round draft pick Peyton Krebs to a three-year, entry level contract.
The 18 year-old forward was selected by the Vegas 17th overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. During the 2018-19 season, Krebs played in 64 games with the Western Hockey League's Kootenay Ice, in which he netted 68 points, with 19 goals and 49 assists.
He was also captain of Team Canada at the 2019 IIHF World U18 Championships. He led the team with 6 goals and 10 points. He would lead Team Canada to a gold medal in the tournament.
In addition to his gold medal, Krebs also currently holds the most points scored by a rookie in a single season of play for the WHL, with 54 during the 2017-18 season.
Krebs has been out for some time recovering from a surgery he had in June in which doctors repaired a partially torn Achilles tendon. He's expected to make his return on Sunday with the Winnipeg Ice (WHL.)
When asked about recovery and getting back on the ice, Krebs told CJOB Sports Show "I feel great. I wasn't really sure my timeline, kind of had something in my head. I wouldn't say I beat it but I'm very happy with where I'm at and the timeline I'm coming back at."
He credited the Vegas Golden Knights training staff with helping him get back on the ice in good time.
"They know what they're doing there, for sure. it's a pro team for a reason, I think it was pretty special to be able to do that."
With a new contract with the Knights and being roughly one day away from his return to the ice, the young forward is undoubtedly excited.
"It'll be amazing. All this hard work, this grind, a mental grind as much as it was physical. it's relief, almost. Just go out there and have some fun and be able to play hockey."
