Apparently Don Cherry's recent comments on immigrants and poppies were the last straw for his employer. Cherry has been fired from Hockey Night In Canada after four decades in the broadcasting industry. Here is the official statement from Sportsnet.

Cherry's comments, in which he called out immigrants for not wearing and/or buying poppies for Remembrance Day, has set off a firestorm of backlash and support all over social media. Sportsnet, the NHL and Coach's Corner co-host Ron MacLean have all apologized for, and rebuked Cherry's comments, calling them discriminatory, offensive and, in MacLean's case, flat-out wrong.

"Hockey is at its best when it brings people together. The comments made [Saturday] night were offensive and contrary to the values we believe in," said the NHL in its statement.

The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council, the organization, which oversees complaints regarding programming in Canada, says it has received so many regarding Don Cherry's recent Remembrance Day rant that it simply can't take any more.

"The CBSC has received a large number of very similar complaints concerning Coach's Corner broadcast on CBC (Sportsnet) on November 9th, 2019, exceeding the CBSC's technical processing capabilities. Accordingly, while the CBSC will be dealing with this broadcast under its normal process, it is not able to accept any further complaints."
