The New York Rangers have announced that defenseman Marc Staal will be out at least two weeks after undergoing surgery for an infection in his ankle. The 32-year-old will be re-evaluated at that time and it will be determined if he can return or if more time is needed.

Staal has played 11 games so far this season and has averaged 18:25 of ice time per night, the third most among Rangers' blueliners. Despite that, he's also spent a few games as a healthy scratch. Staal is his his 13th NHL season with New York, which drafted him 12th overall in 2005.

The Rangers are also still without star forward Mika Zibanejad, who's day-to-day with an upper-body injury. They are currently sitting sixth in the Metropolitan Division with a 7-6-1 record.
