It has been a rough start to the year for San Jose, and fans are getting restless. As the Sharks hit the ice Friday night to take on the Winnipeg Jets, the starting line up was announced, and Kevin Kurz, who was covering the game for The Athletic, reported boos for beleaguered defenseman Erik Karlsson.

The Sharks are among the bottom teams in the league, and showed just why again Friday night as they outshot Winnipeg 53-19, and still lost 3-2. It's hard to pin the team's problems on any one player, but Karlsson seems to have become the scapegoat for now. He's the highest paid blueliner in the NHL ($11.5 million AAV) and is doing well in the stats department with one goal and nine points. He is, however, a minus-12 and has not come up big when the team has needed it most. Given that Karlsson's contract keeps him with the team for another seven years after this season, they could be long ones if the team doesn't turn things around and he continues to bear the brunt of the blame.
