Forward Ty Rattie, 26, once a standout in the WHL and a 2nd round draft pick of the St. Louis Blues back in 2011, has become a casualty of the system in the KHL and has been placed on waivers by Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.

According to KHL rules, each team is allowed no more than five "legionnaires" (foreign-born players not holding naturalized citizenship). The team had recently signed Magnus Paajarvi, putting them over the limit. Lokomotiv fans will probably be as surprised as anyone, considering that Rattie had 9 points in 16 games, good for the third highest point total on the team.

Rattie had spent parts of six seasons in the NHL with the Blues and the Oilers, playing 99 games putting up 30 points. This year was his first in the KHL.

Lokomotiv has undergone some major changes this year. After firing head coach Craig MacTavish eight games into the first season of his two-year deal, they eventually settled on the highly experienced Mike Pelino. The team sits 8th out of 12 in the West Conference of the KHL.
