As you may have heard by now, last week Carolina Hurricanes broadcaster and television host Mike Maniscalco had to be taken to the emergency room, due to severe discomfort in his abdomen. Upon examination, a large mass was discovered in his stomach.

After being treated at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in California, Maniscalco was cleared to travel back to Raleigh, North Carolina to undergo surgery, which he received on Monday.

Thursday, the Hurricanes released the following statement regarding their beloved broadcaster;

"Mike underwent successful surgery on Monday to remove a large mass from his abdomen. The surgery was performed by Dr. Michael LeCompte and Dr. Michael Meyers at UNC REX Hospital in Raleigh. Today, Mike received the results of the biopsy, which determined the mass to be non-cancerous.

Mike and his family want to convey their gratitude for the positive thoughts, prayers and concerns during the past week, and as for continued privacy at this time as he continues to recover. Though he will require a period of recovery, Mike is looking forward to returning to work as soon as possible. He would like to thank all of his nurses and doctors at UNC REX Hospital for their incredible care during his stay, specifically Dr. LeCompte and Dr. Meyers."

Maniscalco is in his fourth season with the team, and serves as both host of the Hurricanes LIVE pre and postgame shows, as well as their rinkside reporter. Fans have come to know and thoroughly enjoy the excitement he brings to his reporting, as well as his 'Canes Corner' radio show. Maniscalco strides to connect members of the Hurricanes organization with the team's fans, and has certainly solidified his spot as a member of the 'Bunch of Jerks' family.
