NESN Bruins announcer Jack Edwards is taking a beating on social media for a call he made on Roman Polak's awful crash into the boards during the Dallas-Boston game Thursday night, but the announcer is refusing to say he did anything wrong.
“I stand by my real-time call, and I think Brick nailed it when he said Polak's injury was ‘self-induced'," said Edwards, when asked about the incident by Boston Globe Sports Reporter Chad Finn.
When Polak went into the board and was in obvious pain, analyst Andy Brickley said "That looked self-induced, didn't it?", to which Edwards replied "Has a little bit of bad hockey karma." It doesn't appear that anyone is taking issue with Brickley's assessment of the incident being "self-induced", as no one pushed Polak into the boards. The issue is Edwards implying that Polak somehow deserved getting hurt either for chasing the Boston player into the boards or for past incidents where Polak had put other players in potentially dangerous situations.
Polak was stretchered off the ice, but is said to be doing much better and has been released from hospital. His agent, Allan Walsh, has called Edwards a "piece of sh--" and "an absolute disgrace" for his karma comment.
