The St. Louis Blues have wasted no time in re-upping centre Brayden Schenn, signing him to a contract for another eight years. The deal is worth $52 million, and carries an AAV of $6.5 million.

Schenn, 28, would have become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. His current contract pays him $5.125 million. Schenn has been a big part of the St. Louis organization since being acquired via a trade with Philadelphia two years ago. Last season, he put up 17 goals and 54 points in 72 games. He also managed five goals and seven assists in 26 playoff games during the Blues' Stanley Cup run last spring.

The signing will leave the St. Louis in a bit of a tough position cap-wise at the end of this season, as they currently have very little space left, and their captain, Alex Pietrangelo, will also be a UFA on July 1st, 2020. They will also have four restricted free agents to deal with at the end of the current season.
