Letang knows that the 'end of an era' is coming in Pittsburgh, but believes the Pens can win now

If you count yourself among those who believes that complacency has set in for three-time Stanley Cup winner Kris Letang in the later stages of his NHL career, the 34-year-old has a message that he'd like to convey. He's not done yet.

On Thursday, Letang told Mike DeFabo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he is focused on winning a 4th Stanley Cup, and he's hoping to do just that with the Penguins this season.

"It doesn't matter how many years I'm going to keep doing this," said Letang. "I just want to do it for one reason - that's to win every year."

Letang believes that the Pens have the pieces in place to compete for hockey's greatest prize once again this season. Age is simply a number to players like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Letang, as they have all proven themselves as gamebreakers when in the lineup. Letang is just thrilled to have achieved what he was able to achieve as a part of the long-time Pens' core and believes that they have what it takes to do it again this season.

"I feel comfortable saying we have what we need to be successful, whether on the coaching staff or player-wise," Letang said. "We have the group to do it. You hear about those guys who decide to go with another team trying to look for another Cup or bigger salaries," Letang said. "The thing we built in Pittsburgh with Sid and Geno, I think it's special. Obviously, there's always an end to an era. I cannot predict when it's going to be done."

The end of an era that Letang is referring to could happen sooner than later as the stud blueliner is entering the final year of his current deal. With his name having been in the rumour mill for at least the last two seasons now, who knows whether or not he'll be extended, traded or find himself in the UFA market next summer.
