Djurgardens just found out that Jacob Josefson, its star player, is out indefinitely after the return of concussion symptoms that kept him out of action last season. The team is hoping Sorensen, who was drafted in the fourth round by the Ottawa Senators in 2010, would serve as his replacement. Djurgardens is the most successful team is SHL history, winning 16 league championships.
Sorensen, 29, has played a total of 226 regular season games throughout his NHL career, netting 31 goals and 64 points. He's also played in 34 playoff games with seven goals and 12 points. Despite not being drafted by San Jose, it is the only NHL team he's ever played for. He did not sign an entry-level contract with Ottawa after being drafted by them, instead signing one with San Jose in 2016. He has played for Djugardens before (from 2012 to 2016) and spent some time with HC Vita Hästen of Sweden's HockeyAllsvenskan while waiting for the 2020-21 NHL season to begin.
