NHL legend Dominik Hasek records message for Patrick Kane for his 1000th game

Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks received plenty of accolades Tuesday night from current and former NHLers as the three-time Stanley Cup champion played in his 1000th game. One of the most notable messages came from Dominik Hasek, one of the greatest goaltenders to ever wear the pads in the NHL. Kane is from Buffalo, New York, where Hasek played for almost 10 years. He told a touching story of renting a car from Kane's father while he was there.

"1000 games is a big accomplishment for the eight-year-old boy from Buffalo whose dad rented me a car and said his son is going to be a really good hockey player," said Hasek. "Lots of dads say stuff like that, but your dad turned out to be the only one who was wrong in a good way. You didn't turn out to be a good player, you turned out to be one of the best ever."

Hasek also mentioned that he "let" Kane score his first ever shootout winner on him because his dad gave him such a good deal on the car. Kane scored his first ever shootout winner on Hasek while he was between the pipes in Detroit on October 6th, 2007, two days after Kane's NHL debut.

"Congratulations, Patrick," said Hasek. "You made your dad look really good."

Kane has spent his entire career with the Chicago Blackhawks since being drafted by the team first overall in 2007. Hasek also played for the Blackhawks, but that was more than 15 years earlier than Kane's draft year.
