Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask told Boston Hockey Now on a Zoom call Tuesday that he has been practicing with a broken finger on his glove hand.

Rask, 33, said he has had the injury since training camp began on July 13. Thankfully for Bruins fans, he also mentioned that he expects it will be fully healed by the time the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin in early August.

“I fractured my finger a couple of weeks ago doing box jumps,” Rask said when asked why he was wearing a splint. “So it's a small fracture, nothing major, but you can probably imagine it's not going to feel great to catch pucks with that.

“I'm not worried about it, it's just one of those things that's going to linger a little bit. It's been what, two-to-three weeks now, and it already feels a lot better. So I'm pretty optimistic that in a week I'll have my normal glove on.”

While he may not truly be fully recovered by the time playoffs start, there is an argument to be made that a slightly banged up Rask is still better than the majority of goaltenders in the league. After this past fantastic season which saw him post a 2.12 goals against average along with a .929 save percentage, he was named a Vezina Trophy Finalist along with Andrei Vasilevskiy and Connor Hellebuyck. He has already won the award once after his brilliant 2013-14 season.

The Bruins will be one of 24 teams participating in this year's postseason, although they get a slightly easier schedule than the majority of teams. Thanks to a strong regular season that saw them finish first in the entire NHL, they will be part of a mini round-robin tournament along with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals, and Philadelphia Flyers in order to determine seeding for when the other teams are finished their five-game play-in series.
