Canadiens to honour former defenceman P.K. Subban prior to game next month vs Nashville
The Montreal Canadiens announced on Monday that they will be honouring former defenceman P.K. Subban prior to their game against the Nashville Predators on January 12th.
He added, "Whether it's kids on local minor hockey teams choosing to wear No. 76, or the number of fans we see on any given night at the Bell Centre who still proudly wear their Subban jerseys, you don't have to go far to understand the influence P.K. had on the popularity of the sport in Quebec."
Subban, 33, announced his retirement from the NHL in September after parts of 13 seasons. He spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Canadiens, putting up 278 points (63 goals, 215 assists), 532 penalty minutes and was a plus-35. Following the 2012-13 season, Subban was named the winner of the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenceman that year.
He was then traded to the Nashville Predators in 2016 in exchange for Shea Weber. Subban's time in Nashville was pretty successful, helping them reach the 2017 Stanley Cup Final.
After three seasons with Nashville, he was shipped to New Jersey, where he would play three more seasons before hanging up his skates.
