The arena that will house the Arizona Coyotes for at least the next couple of seasons has officially been named. Arizona State's hockey team announced the identity of their new facility today:

«

«The Mullett family has supported Sun Devil Hockey through every stage of its existence and expanded their support of Sun Devil Athletics in the years since. In appreciation of Don and Barbara's commitment, we're thrilled to introduce Mullett Arena," said Vice President for University Athletics Ray Anderson. "With this building dedication, ASU and the Mullett's shared vision comes to life as we take another step toward elevating our elite student-athlete experience and further serving our community."

Without the Mulletts, NCAA hockey in Arizona doesn't happen. Oddly enough, without hockey, I'm not so sure mullets would have a place anywhere either. Don Mullett was gracious in response, assuring that the facility would be a beacon of hockey in the community.

»Hockey is a constant in our family and an element of our lives that brings us so much joy. It is so special for us to now associate that love for the game with Arizona State University and the state of Arizona with this remarkable building. As awe-struck as we are to watch elite college hockey in this state-of-the-art facility, we're finding even more meaning in the assurance that Mullett Arena will be home to little tykes, learn-to-skates, and club and adult leagues who share our love for the sport," said Mullett.

The Arizona Coyotes will call this place home for a couple of seasons at minimum, so it is likely that they have a strong presence in youth programs and other initiatives launches through the program and the program itself.

From what I understand, Arizona State University is one of the top party schools in North America, so Mullett Arena will surely feature its fair share of debauchery as well. I can definitely see Mullett Arena becoming one of those places where 5,000 people feels like 50,000. At least for ASU games, I don't know about the Coyotes.
