Cedric Paquette leaving North America to continue hockey career
One-time Stanley Cup champion Cedric Paquette is reportedly leaving the NHL to continue his hockey career. According to a report out of Russia, Paquette is signing a contract with Dynamo Minsk of the KHL.
After winning a Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020, his seven year tenure with the team ended in December of the same year when he was traded to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for the contracts of Marian Gaborik and Anders Nilsson so the Bolts could clear cap space. Paquette had a short stint with the Sens before being traded to Carolina in February of 2021. He would finish the year with the Hurricanes, and then signed a one-year deal with the Montreal Canadiens for the 2021-22 season. Paquette's time with the Habs didn't go the way he wanted, and he finished out the season with the Laval Rocket of the AHL.
Paquette, 29, was drafted by Tampa Bay in the fourth round in 2012. In 448 regular season NHL games, Paquette has 51 goals and 95 points.
