It happened so fast and nearly out of the camera's frame that you likely wouldn't have noticed it happened at all except for the clearly audible yell of Cal Clutterbuck of the New York Islanders.
He endured a very scary moment Thursday night when playing the Boston Bruins as the skate of Patrice Bergeron came up as he was falling and put a deep cut right on Clutterbuck's wrist. Clutterbuck threw down his gloves and stick and held his arm as he skated to the hallway, where a trainer met him. Check it out: (Warning: graphic video).
The incident happened about a quarter of the way through the third period. Clutterbuck, of course, did not return to the game. Islanders Head Coach Barry Trotz gave a bit of an update following the end of the game.
"All I have right now is he's gone to the hospital for evaluation, just getting stitched up," he told reporters. "Hopefully, it's not too serious. But those are always scary when the skate comes up."
Later Friday, the New York Islanders gave a bit of an update, saying Clutterbuck flew home from Boston with his teammates. Other than that, there would be no further updates until Saturday.

It was just a week ago that Tucker Tynan, a goaltender with the Niagara IceDogs, required surgery after suffering a deep gash on his leg during a game in the Ontario Hockey League. Both incidents are great reminders of the inherent danger of hockey and the potential for freak accidents.
