CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Ilya Sorokin claims that the news that he is trying to force a tradeoff his rights from the Islanders took him by surprise.
"First time I'm reading this information," he told Igor Eronko of Sport Express. "My job right now is to play for CSKA."
The former third round draft pick has blossomed into a star in the KHL. The 24-year-old has been selected to the KHL All-Star team in four consecutive years. He won the Gagarin Cup, KHL's ultimate prize last year, while being named playoff MVP. He is currently 14-7-2 with a 1.50 GAA and a .936 SV%.
Sorokin's contract with CSKA is up at the end of this year, and he was expected at the Isles training camp in 2020. Thomas Greiss, currently working in tandem with Semyon Varlamov, is a UFA at the end of this season.
