New York Islanders Head Coach Barry Trotz is making it pretty clear he doesn't think much of a move by his Nashville counterpart Peter Laviolette is a game between their two teams Tuesday night. Late in the game, with the Predators already beating the Islanders 8-3, Laviolette put out his top powerplay unit for a 5-3 chance. Trotz wasn't a fan, to say the least.
“I'll see Peter maybe in the summer and we'll discuss that a little bit. I wasn't a big fan of that,” Trotz said Thursday, according to Newsday's Andrew Gross. “It's 8-3 and you're putting your guys blasting pucks and you're putting guys at risk. That's fine. Everybody has their own way of doing it. I probably wouldn't have done it that way.
“It tells me a lot about him.”
The reaction to Trotz's words on Twitter was swift, with some saying they agreed and others calling him a whiner. There are also a few remarks noting that Nashville's top powerplay unit is probably not a good as one of the regular lines this season. In terms of percentages, Nashville is currently 26th in the entire league on the powerplay at 15.6 percent.
At least a few of the comments stated Trotz should be more concerned with his team giving up eight goals rather than which line the opponent is playing.
