Coming into Sunday's game with the Blackhawks, Minnesota's Eric Staal was sitting on 999 career points. He didn't make the fans wait long.

Staal becomes the 89th player (7th active) to hit the 1000 point milestone, achieving it in 1208 games. He is the first in Wild history to do so. The 35-year-old centre is in his 16th NHL season, having spent the last 3+ seasons with the Wild. He was a first round pick, second overall of the 2003 NHL Draft, going to the Hurricanes. Just three years later, he had 28 points in 25 playoffs games as the Canes won the 2006 Stanley Cup.
While many people counted Staal out because of his declining production in his last years in Carolina and a disastrous stint with the Rangers, Staal revived his career in Minnesota with 219 points in 279 games so far.
