Nick Shore is now a member of the Winnipeg Jets. The Toronto Maple Leafs put him on waivers Tuesday with the intent of sending him to the AHL if no one took him. The Leafs appear to be freeing up cap space for the impending return of forward Mitch Marner, who has been on injured reserve just shy of four weeks with a high ankle sprain.
Shore, 27, has played in 21 games for the Leafs this season and has three points (2G, 1A) and 12 penalty minutes. He spent the 2018-19 season with the KHL's Magnitogorsk and recorded 16 points (3G, 13A) and 22 PIMs in 37 games. Shore, Los Angeles' third round pick (82nd overall) in 2011, has played 257 career NHL games for L.A., Ottawa, Calgary, and Toronto and has 56 points (17G, 39A) and 90 PIMs. He also played one playoff game for the Kings in 2015-16.
With the pick up of Shore, the Jets have sent forward Michael Spacek to AHL affiliate the Manitoba Moose. Spacek has yet to play for Winnipeg this season.
Meanwhile, the Jet have placed defenceman Dmitry Kulikov on injured reserve. He is expected to be out of the lineup until the All-Star break near the end of January with an upper-body injury.
