Czech Republic issues commemorative banknote in honour of Jaromir Jagr's 50th birthday

If you think Jaromir Jagr is well-liked in North America (and he is), he's even more beloved in his home country of the Czech Republic. The hockey legend turned 50 on Tuesday, and even got a commemorative bank note in his honour. According to reports, 10,000 of these are being released.

"In total, four circulations of 2500 copies of the commemorative banknote will be issued, which will not be used as a means of payment," said an official with the Cech Republic's state securities printing house.

Sports reporter Robert Rampa notes the bills cost 2,500 CZK to purchase, just shy of $120 USD.

Jagr did comment on the issuing of the banknote.

"I am very happy and it is a great honor for me. I would make three more zeros on the banknote," he joked.

At 50 CZK, if the bill could be used as money, it would be worth just over $2 USD.

As for Tuesday being his 50th birthday, "Tomorrow will be just as normal a day for me as any other," said Jagr. "Instead of celebrating, I would love to watch hockey with our team at the Beijing Olympics or the performance of other Czech Olympians. As for age, I don't feel 50 years old at all"

Jagr, who is still playing for Kladno, the team he owns in his home country, is second on the NHL's All-Time points list, with only Wayne Gretzky getting more.
