By now, we're all aware of the racist language that former Flames bench boss Bill Peters used while addressing former NHLer Akim Aliu during their time together in AHL Rockford.

Earlier this week, Peters tendered his resignation in Calgary, which was undoubtedly due to the fact that a termination was the most likely outcome and the resignation allowed Peters to go out on his own terms.

In the latest development in this story has Aliu securing legal representation in the form of Geragos & Geragos, the same firm that represents former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

A letter from Peters to Flames GM Brad Treliving confirms that the claims of Aliu are absolutely truthful. Peters expressed his feelings of remorse and offered his apologies to to Treliving and the Flames organization, but made no mention of Aliu.

Aliu promptly responded to the letter, calling it "misleading, insincere and concerning".

Aliu is expected to meet with the NHL to discuss the "cultural" issues in hockey next week.
