Calgary defenseman T.J. Brodie has hit the ice for the first time since he collapsed during practice last week.
Brodie was attending a regularly scheduled practice with the Flames when he suddenly collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he was tested and released later the same day. He has yet to return to the line up.
Flames General Manager Brad Treliving issued a statement regarding Brodie's condition;
"T.J. has been working out for the past several days and today skated on his own under the supervision of our medical staff. Over this past week he has had consultations with appropriate specialists in Calgary. To date all medical evaluations and testing have been reassuring."
Treliving also noted "We still work to complete final testing and are optimistic he will re-join the team in the near future. T.J. has been placed on injury reserve retroactive to November 14th."
Flames' team physician Dr. Ian Auld also commented on Brodie's condition, stating the defenseman is out of danger, and though more testing is needed, it seems evident that Brodie may have fainted.
"The reasons for why people faint are many, and dehydration certainly could be one of them. At this point, we don't have all the information - we still have a few more tests to go - but it's very likely related more to a fainting episode than it is something significant inside the brain."
With Brodie returning to supervised workouts and taking to the ice, both fans and the Flames organization are optimistic that he will return to the blue line in the near future.
