The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced on Monday that backup goaltender Michael Hutchinson has been placed on waivers.

Hutchinson allowed 5 goals on 34 shots in a 5-4 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night in the second half of a back-to-back.

Hutchinson's struggles have been well documented, however he should not shoulder all of the blame as the Leafs have hung the backup out to dry on most nights playing sloppy team defense and losing puck battles in the defensive zone. Hutchinson is 0-4-1 with a 4.44 GAA and .879 save percentage through 5 starts this season.

Per David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Leafs have been linked to former Carolina Hurricanes backstop Scott Darling who is currently playing in Austria. For now, though, expect Marlies netminder Kasimir Kaskisuo to get the call up. Kaskisuo has been playing well for the Marlies this season, boasting a 6-1-1 record, with a .928 save percentage and a 2.13 GAA through 8 starts this season.
