Things are going from bad to worse for Bobby Ryan in Ottawa. The Senators have announced the 32-year-old, who was once touted as a key acquisition for the team, will be a healthy scratch when Ottawa takes on San Jose Sunday night. 22-year-old Filip Chlapik has been recalled from Belleville of the AHL to play in his spot.

Ryan has one goal and three assists through 10 games this season for Ottawa (2-7-1) while seeing his ice time greatly reduced in the process. He hasn't logged more than 15:20 all year. In 2013, Ryan was acquired by the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forwards Jakob Silfverberg, Stefan Noesen and a first-round draft pick in 2014. Since then. he has cracked the 50 point mark twice, but only managed 42 points last season and just 33 ad 25 in the previous two seasons.

Ryan is making $7.25 million per season until the end of 2021-22, making him a very expensive healthy scratch.
