Philip Samuelsson, son of two-time Stanley Cup champion and ultimate pest Ulf Samuelsson, was given a game misconduct Saturday for a blatant crosscheck right in front of the net. Samuelsson plays for Leksands IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He laid into Adam Brodecki of Brynäs IF with Brodecki standing near the Leksands net waiting for a potential rebound. You can watch the incident below.
It can be difficult to tell exactly where Samuelsson's stick catches Brodecki, but if it's not on the chin, it's certainly high up on the chest or on the neck. Samuelsson was immediately ejected from the game, but it appears there will be no supplementary discipline from the league.
Samuelsson is a former 2nd round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, where his father won two Stanley Cups. However, he's only managed 13 NHL games since being drafted in 2009, five with the Penguins and eight with Arizona. He spent much of his North American hockey career in the AHL. Besides the SHL, he's also played in the Czech Extraliga.
