It appears as though talks are underway between Habs defenseman Victor Mete and the Montreal Canadiens.

TSN's Pierre LeBrun is reporting that the two sides came together last week for preliminary discussions on a new deal.

It is worth noting that Mete is represented by Darren Ferris, who is notorious for not negotiating during the season, instead preferring to wait until the off season to do business.

No news yet on what type of deal Mete and his camp are looking for, be it a short-term bridge deal of two to three years or a longer-term deal of six or more years, nor what type of salary the blueliner is expecting.

Mete has recorded 22 points in 130 career NHL games with the Canadiens.
