It wasn't the plan the Anaheim Ducks had in mind, but it's one they have to live with now. It was Tuesday that the team had signed free agent defenseman Luca Sbisa to a one-year deal. The plan was the send the 29-year-old to the minors so the Ducks could call him up when needed. In order to do that, Sbisa needed to pass through waivers. That's when the Winnipeg Jets threw a wrench in Anaheim's plans.

The Jets have claimed Sbisa off waivers from the Ducks. Winnipeg has been hurting for blueliners since the beginning of the season and have other, younger defenseman that can be sent to the AHL if needed.

Sbisa will cost Winnipeg $665,323 in total cap space if he remains on their roster for the rest of the season. The native of Italy has played a total of 504 NHL games with Philadelphia, Anaheim, Vancouver, Vegas and the New York Islanders. He has 18 goals and 103 points.
