When told that Jaromir Jagr wanted him to stay in the NHL as long as possible to break Gretzky's goal record, Alexander Ovechkin jokingly said that it was Jagr's intention to do so himself, but it didn't work out.

When asked what he thought about the challenge, Ovechkin responded that he still has time. He did say that he will not be following in Jagr's footsteps in terms of longevity. When the interviewer, Victoria Bulakhov, asked if he can see himself still playing at 47, he answered with a hard "no."

Jagr had recently done an interview in Russia where he told Ovechkin to stay and break Gretzky's goal scoring record.

"If Ovechkin keeps playing in the NHL, he will pass Gretzky," said Jagr in an interview with Pavel Lysenkov. "It's up to him. To stay and be the best (goal scorer) of all time, or go home and enjoy family life.
