With an assist tonight on Alex Ovechkin's 3rd period goal, Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson has joined truly elite company.

Not only did he move into the league lead in points, but Carlson's assist was his 18th point through only 10 games to start the season, becoming only the third defenseman of all time to reach that total through 10 games, joining Paul Coffey (20) and Bobby Orr (18, twice). Talk about walking alongside the greats.

The 29-year-old is well on his way to enjoying a career year. Carlson has recorded 420 points over 697 career NHL games. '19/'20 will be his 11th season in the NHL, all with the Caps.
