While he didn't get the win he was hoping for, Ottawa defenseman Erik Brannstrom is quite lucky all the same. The 20-year-old took a skate to the face in the final seconds of Wednesday night's game while trying to stop Toronto's Auston Matthews from scoring on an open net. You can see the incident below:

While Matthews' skate blade came within a hair of catching Brannstrom in the eye, as you can see below, he was very lucky to escape with two cuts, rather than anything that would impact his vision. Sens' head coach DJ Smith says Brannstrom will be fine, despite needing "a few stiches."
