The Chicago Blackhawks have signed winger Alex DeBrincat to a three-year contract extension. It carries an average annual value of $6.4 million. DeBrincat still has a year left on his current contract that pays $894,166, so the new one doesn't kick in until next season.

The 21-year-old was drafted in the 2nd round, 39th overall, by the Blackhawks in 2016. He had a career year last season, netting 41 goals and 76 points, putting up career highs across the board offensively. In 164 NHL games, he has 69 goals and 59 assists for 128 total points.

Debrincat was drafted by the Blackhawks with a pick from the Montreal Canadiens acquired in the Andrew Shaw trade in June of 2016. This offseason, Shaw was traded back to Chicago by the Habs.
