The Seattle Kraken have unveiled Jordan Eberle as the team's second ever captain.

Eberle was named captain of the team earlier today, the team's first player to wear the 'C' since Mark Giordano let the Kraken as an expansion franchise in 2020-21. The team has not had a captain named since that time. Eberle has been an assistant captain for the team since their inception.

The team first unveiled their new Captain during the Kraken's pre-game warmup, officially showcasing their newest leader for fans ahead of their opening 2024-25 season match against the St. Louis Blues.

2021 2nd overall pick Matthew Beniers has been given the nod as an assistant captain, serving alongside Adam Larsson, Yanni Gourde & Jaden Schwartz, who served as assistants alongside Eberle the past three seasons, Beniers replacing the now-Captain Eberle in support.

Eberle, 34, is entering his fourth season as a member of the Kraken. Eberle had 17 goals and 44 points in 78 games for Seattle last season. In three seasons with the Kraken, Eberle has netted 58 goals with 93 assists for 151 points in 239 games.

Currently, Eberle is in his 15th NHL season, having played for the Kraken along with the Edmonton Oilers & New York Islanders previously. Eberle was a first round pick of the Oilers in the 2008 NHL Draft, 22nd overall. After seven seasons in Edmonton, Eberle was traded to the Islanders in 2017. He played four seasons in New York before being selected by Seattle in the 2021 Expansion Draft.

Eberle is a two-time NHL all-star in 2012 and 2022. Internationally, Eberle has sound success in Canada, having won the gold medal for the Canadians in 2009 after his heroic game tying goal vs Russia that helped send Canada to the finals. Eberle also won silver a year later in 2010, named the tournament's top player with 13 points in 6 games.

Eberle also won the CHL's Player of the Year award the same year after a 50 goal, 106 point season in the Western Hockey League with Regina. Eberle won a World Championship gold for Canada in 2015, finishing second in points with 13, one back of Jason Spezza.
