On May 28, 2015, Peter DeBoer was named Head Coach of the San Jose Sharks, after parting ways with the New Jersey Devils. Right away, DeBoer had success with the team, taking San Jose to the Stanley Cup final in his first season. Though his team would lose the Cup to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 6 games, Deboer would take his Sharks to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the next three years, with the team finishing in either 2nd or 3rd place in the Pacific Division every year with him at the reigns.

Unfortunately for San Jose, they have not had the same fortune through the first leg of the 2019-2020 season. The team is currently sitting at 6th in the Pacific, in the midst of a five-game losing streak, with a 15-16-2 record.

As a result of the Sharks struggles through this season, it was announced on Wednesday that Head Coach Peter Deboer has been fired, as confirmed by Pierre LeBrun (TSN Hockey Insider.)

It was also noted that the termination was "purely a hockey decision," likely to negate any suspicion surrounding recent allegations of mistreatment of players from coaches, which have resulted in several other coaches being terminated.

At this time, it has not been directly addressed by the San Jose Sharks organization, but it seems likely that Bob Boughner will take over behind the San Jose Bench.
