Blues sign Berube to contract extension
The St. Louis Blues have locked up head coach Craig Berube, announcing on Wednesday that they have signed him to a three-year contract extension.
«I've enjoyed working with (general manager) Doug Armstrong and (chairman) Tom Stillman, working with the coaching staff and training staff and all the players we have here,» Berube said to stlouisblues.com. «Why would I want to go anywhere else? I love it here.»
Berube, 56, took over as the Blues bench boss during the 2019-20 season after the firing of Mike Yeo. He led them on a Cinderella run in that first season, as they were dead last in the standings during Christmas break but went on to win the Stanley Cup. Though they haven't gotten back to that level since, he has led the Blues to the playoffs in all three seasons as their head coach.
The Blues are performing at a high level once again with a 26-13-5 record through 44 games, which has them sitting in the top wild card slot in the Western Conference. Barring a major shocker, they will once again be competing in the postseason this year, and they certainly have both the talent and coaching to make a run.
